Join us on an exciting hike on Ingmarsö. The focus is on the people, how they lived, survived and worked. We hear about linen manufacturing, boat building, fishing in the inlands, the revival movement and much more.

 

Starting point: Local History Museum at Norrgården

People have lived on Ingmarsö for many hundreds of years. Around 180 people still live here year-round. There is a plastics factory, shipyard, year-round shop, guitar workshop, bakery, tavern and much more.

 

But how did people live and survive here in the past?

This is a hike that starts and ends at the museum at Norrgården. We walk on easy paths, even children can join.

 

We pass Linbastun, an important cog in the production of fabric for clothes, tablecloths and more. We walk across fields where strawberries were densely packed during the 1960s strawberry rush in the archipelago, not unlike the gold rush.

At Norsviken we look at Björklund's boatyard where the mahogany racer Sjökatten was built in the 1950s. Several episodes of the TV series "Svärtan" (SVT 2026) were filmed here, which is based on

John Ajvide Linqvist's book "Summer 1985". We pass the old Byviken, which is now a marina. Here fish were lured into the Ingmarsö residents' nets in the 19th century.

 

We pass the first summer guesthouses on the island where it is said that Ivar LO Johansson sat and wrote. Finally we come to the Mission House, which was built in 1904 when the Free Church movement was strong in the archipelago.
